Eagleville leadoff hitter Kelsey Burks makes contact in the first inning of the Lady Eagles’ 23-0 win over MTCS on Friday.

Bailey Alexander’s teammates gave her plenty of run support Friday night.

All the Eagleville softball pitcher had to do was focus on throwing strikes.

Alexander and the Lady Eagles routed rival MTCS 23-0, winning in a three-inning mercy rule.

Alexander struck out eight of the 10 batters she faced. She also allowed a first inning walk to Madi Hageman in the first inning and Sarah Cox grounded out to end the game.

Eagleville (9-6, 3-3 in 9-A) scored 20 runs off MTCS starter Holly Bowman in the bottom of the first inning to quickly put the game out of reach. The first 15 batters reached base before the Lady Cougars recorded their first out. In total, 25 Lady Eagles batted before the inning ended.

MTCS is battling low numbers this season. The Lady Cougars had the minimum number of players (9) for the game.

“It was kind of hard to work like that after scoring that many in the first inning,” Alexander said. “We did score 20 in the first inning.

“Our strike zone got really short. He called what was a strike. It was super duper tight.”

Eagleville finished the game with 14 base hits, including 10 in the first inning.

“We just came out and wanted to play,” Eagleville coach Chad Leeman said. “We had a bad night Tuesday (in a 4-1 loss to Fayetteville). We just wanted to come out and play our ball. And I thought we were able to do that.”

The loss to Fayetteville came five days after the Lady Eagles beat Fayetteville 7-0.

Alexander finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored against MTCS. She also hit a triple and drove in three runs.

Courtney Marlin was 3-for-3 with three singles and two RBIs. She also was hit by a pitch. Abby Harris was 2-for-2 with two walks and five RBIs. Her two walks came with bases loaded.

Eagleville followed the win with a 5-0 loss to Moore County.
