Easley was tied with defending champion Boiling Springs Monday after the first round of the 77th Kiwanis South Carolina Class AAAA boys golf state tournament at the Furman University Golf Course.
The tournament had been scheduled for 54 holes, 36 Monday and 18 Tuesday. However, because of impending weather conditions, play was suspended during the second 18 and those results were discarded. Only the first 18 will count for the first day, and the event has been modified to a 36-hole tournament.
Boiling Springs and Easley, last year’s state runner-up, both ended the first day at 303, two shots ahead of Gaffney.
Boiling Springs’ Trent Phillips, the medalist last year as an eighth-grader, and Summerville’s Christian Woods each shot 3-under-par 69 to share the first-round lead. Easley’s Matt Carter is third at 71.
The final round is Tuesday at Furman.
