Steve Wilson, who spent more than two decades as an assistant at Furman University, is the new football coach at Eastside High School, athletic director Scott Erwin confirmed this morning.
Wilson replaces Jeff Thomason, who resigned after four seasons and a 9-32 record as the Eagles’ coach.
Wilson served this past season as defensive coordinator at Gainesville (Ga.) High School, the school that produced Clemson University quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Wilson served as defensive coordinator at Furman from 1986 to 1998 and again from 2002 to 2009.
“He knows the area,” Erwin said. “He’s got connections at the high school and college levels. We feel really good about the football coach we’ve got.”
In between stints at Furman, Wilson served as head coach at Gainesville in 2000 and 2001.
