Chef of the Week
In sports, the term “cookin” is reserved for a player who goes on a scoring spree or gets hot during a game and makes big plays on the offensive end.
This week’s “Chef of the Week” award goes to Word of God Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) point guard Jalen Harris for his dominant showing while running the show for Team Wall (N.C.) at the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest last week.
Harris averaged 17 points and nine assists with a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for the weekend.
True chef numbers indeed.
Poster of the Week
This week’s Poster of the Week winner is Northside (Pinetown, N.C.) forward Edrice “Bam Bam” Adebayo for catching an unorthodox pass off the rim and throwing it down over, well, everybody while running with Team Loaded (N.C.) at the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest last week.
Adebayo’s teammate Dennis Smith Jr. threw him the lob off the backboard and Adebayo skied over a small group, which included teammates, to throw down the strong two-handed jam.
Oh how vicious it was…
Oh No They Didn’t!
This award is reserved for the player who turned in a mind-boggling performance or play that left the crowd in a state of shock and amazement.
This week’s “Oh No They Didn’t” winner is Golden Valley (Merced, Calif.) running back Isaiah Montanez for managing the ankle-breaking evasion move of the summer thus far at The Opening Oakland last week.
Montanez took the ball and darted directly at the defender up the middle then went right, broke down and spun back to the left. The defender dove for Montanez but only found air.
Pandemonium ensued and as his fellow campers rushed Montanez to celebrate the juke-move he finished the play off with a backwards flip.
This you must see.
