The site and tip-off time(s) have been finalized for Friday’s game to determine the No. 1 state playoff seed in Mountain Athletic Conference 3-A boys basketball.
Erwin (17-7, 10-2) and North Buncombe (20-3, 10-2) mutually agreed on a neutral gym for the game (Reynolds), and have put into a place a contingency plan which depends on whether Buncombe County Schools are in session Friday.
If school is out, the game will begin at 3 p.m. If school is not out, then the game will start at 5.
Tickets are expected to be $6 each.
The Black Hawks and Warriors shared the MAC 3-A regular-season championship, and without a conference tournament, must play to break the tie for playoff seeding purposes.
Friday is the rubber match between the two rivals. North Buncombe protected its home court with a 61-56 win on Jan. 15, and Erwin got payback with a 82-67 victory on Feb. 6.
Black Hawks athletic director Barry Owens said that the early start times were motivated by safety concerns. Ideally, BCS wants to ensure that the teams and fans are able to return home before it gets dark outside and record-low temperatures in the county drop further.
The Citizen-Times will provide a live blog Friday, as well as updates on any changes to the game.
