COLCHESTER – The Essex boys and Champlain Valley girls reigned supreme for the third straight year at the high school volleyball club state championships Saturday at St. Michael’s College.
In an all-CVU-Essex final, the Hornet boys won their matchup 3-0, with scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20.
For the girls, CVU captured the first two games 25-18 and 25-20 before Essex seized the third at 25-20. But Essex couldn’t force a tiebreaker set, with CVU winning 25-12 to claim the crown.
Volleyball, a club sport under the Vermont Principals’ Association for the last three years, will likely seek to earn varsity status for the 2016 season.
