Late Estero cross country and track coach Jeff Sommer and Naples head football coach Bill Kramer were two of seven coaches voted into the 40th Annual Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the the organization’s board of director’s meeting in Daytona Beach last week.
In addition to Sommer, who won eight state cross country titles and died in May, and Kramer, who coached Naples to two state titles, Port St. Lucie softball and basketball coach Jim Belin, Tallahassee Leon football coach Mark Feely, Tallahassee Chiles baseball coach Greg Jones, Merritt Island football coach Jeff McClean and Lake Wales football coach Rod Shafer were also selected.
The induction will be held Jan. 9 of next year at the Daytona Beach Hilton Oceanfront Resort.
Former South Fort Myers defensive back Antwan Dixon, who is now at Kent State, will receive the Sam Sirianni Memorial Scholarship, named after the late Fort Myers football coach. The scholarship is worth $1,000.
