WALL TOWNSHIP — A former New Jersey Devils player who now coaches a high school team is accused of kicking a 16-year-old player in the back.
News 12 New Jersey reports a parent filed simple assault charges against Jim Dowd over an incident that allegedly occurred last Wednesday when the team played Red Bank Regional at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall.
Dowd was scheduled to appear in Wall Township Municipal Court on Tuesday. However, he has retained a lawyer who got the hearing postponed.
Dowd has been suspended from his job as coach of the Manasquan/Point Pleasant Beach varsity hockey team. Manasquan School Superintendent Frank Kasyan (KAYS’-an) says it was best to relieve Dowd of his coaching duties during the investigation.
Dowd played 17 seasons in the NHL.
