Scottsdale Saguaro football coach Jason Mohns wouldn’t recommend graduating early from high school for all of his players. But for wide receiver Christian Kirk, it was the right move.
That showed up Monday when Texas A&M posted its first depth chart for the 2015 football season and listed Kirk as a starting receiver and the starting kickoff returner.
Sept. 5 in Houston against Arizona State, which tried very hard to woo Kirk.
Kirk, last season’s azcentral sports’ Football Player of the Year, finished his high school academic requirements in December so he could enroll into Texas A&M in January and get to work for his freshman season. He was impressive in spring football.
“Christian Kirk is a kid who had played varsity since his freshman year and, in my opinion, was mentally and physically ready for the next level,” Mohns said. “It takes a certain level of maturity and work ethic to be able to go in and play right away and I think Christian excels in both of those areas.”
