Unbeaten Fairfax High of Los Angeles didn’t just win during a weekend trip to British Columbia, the Lions dominated.
Fairfax, No. 5 in the Super 25 boys basketball rankings, took home the championship of the 55th Snowball Classic, winning its three games by a combined score of 350-171. The Lions remain unbeaten at 18-0.
In the final, Fairfax downed Burnaby (British Columbia) South 80-61 and had a comfortable margin throughout. Donald Gipson scored 20 points and Lindsey Drew had a triple-double (10 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists). Babacar Thiombane (14) and Isaiah Ajiboye (13) each scored in double figures.
In the semifinals, the Lions topped Kitsilano (Vancouver) by a final of 132-60. Jeremy Hamilton had 25 points, Thiombane had 24 and Gipson added 22.
In the quarterfinals, the final was 138-50 against W.J. Mouat (Abbotsford, B.C.). The Lions led 42-6 after the first quarter and 79-24 at half. Gipson scored 20 points and Drew had another triple double (10 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists). Thiombane had 14 and Abijoye had 13.
Gipson was named the tournament MVP. Thiombane, Drew and Ajiboye all made all-tournament team.
