Fan who caught winning TD ball turns down $20,000

After Jermaine Kearse caught Russell Wilson’s 35-yard touchdown pass in overtime to send the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl, he chucked the football into the seats of CenturyLink.

The ball landed into the lap of Scott Shelton. The day after the catch, Shelton was offered $20,000 by a sports memorabilia collector for the football. The jobless 32-year-old father of two told Komo News he turned the offer down.

He also balked when he received a call from Kearse, offering a team-signed helmet and his game jersey in exchange for the football. Shelton asked for a trip to the Super Bowl as well. It’s a tall order, and one that perhaps isn’t the most logistically responsible for Shelton.

You see, Shelton is going to jail the day after the Super Bowl.

If Shelton does end up going to the Super Bowl, he’ll need to hurry back to Western Washington because at 2 p.m. the next day, his mother says a judge will take him into custody to start serving several months in jail.
