ESSEX – Sierra Combs and Clare Sheahan each tallied two goals and an assist to lead Rice to a convincing 5-0 win over Colchester in the Division I field hockey playdowns at Essex on Tuesday.

Also getting in on the scoring were Michaela Forgione with one goal, Rachel Chicoine (two assists) and Lisa McNamara (assist).

Abby Ladd had 17 saves for Colchester (1-14).

Emily Rachek had three saves for Rice (13-2), playing in its first D-I tournament.

(7) Rutland 5, (10) Burlington 1: Marina Rotella pumped in four goals as Rutland pushed past visiting Burlington.

Molly Higgins scored Burlington’s goal, knocking a shot past Rutland goalie Emily Lanzillo (six saves).

(6) Hartford 4, (11) Brattleboro 0: Kristen Davis got host Hartford on the board in the 18th minute and the Hurricanes rolled past Brattleboro.

Morgan Horne, Natasha Lovell (assist) and Morgan Pero also found the back of the net for Hartford (6-4-4). Havailah Arnold and Brooke Hurd added assists.

Brattleboro finishes at 3-9-2.
