Rain cut the Class 5A girls golf state tournament in half.
The second and final round scheduled to be played Tuesday at the Olde Course in Loveland was canceled due to rain making the course unplayable.
Results from Monday’s first round are final.
Fossil Ridge had four golfers at state. Paige Gentry was the highest finisher, ending tied for 30th at plus-13 with a round of 85 Monday. Cammie Fowler was tied for 38th after a plus-15 round of 87. Kenzi Hueter and Kayla Elder both shot 90 and tied for 52nd at plus-18.
Dakota Ridge’s Gillian Vance won with a round of 68, four strokes under par. Regis Jesuit won the team title at plus-five. Fossil Ridge finished tied for 12th.
According to a story on CHSAANow.com, CHSAA decided to not move final day of the tournament to another day “in order to mitigate lost school time and cost to schools.” Further, the Olde Course wasn’t available to move play to Wednesday. It’s a long-standing policy to have first-day results hold as final if the second day is canceled.
