Chet Parlavecchio’s coaching career has taken him far from home. But the former Tennessee Titans assistant is back in New Jersey, and soon to return to Passaic Valley.
Parlavecchio is expected to be confirmed as the new head football coach at a school board meeting tonight. Passaic Valley interim superintendent recommended Parlavecchio to the board, according to the agenda for tonight’s meeting. He will make $10,863, pending district-wide contract negotiations.
A Florham Park resident, Parlavecchio coached at Passaic Valley from 1994-98, reaching the NJSIAA North 1 Group III final in ’96. The former linebackers coach at Temple University, he has also coached at Bloomfield, Irvington, Clifton and Elizabeth, winning the North 2 Group IV title in ’06.
Parlavecchio had been with the Titans for three seasons, two as a special teams coach and one as linebackers coach under Mike Munchak, his former Penn State teammate and roommate. Parlavecchio was an All-American linebacker at Seton Hall Prep and for the Nittany Lions. Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in ’82, he played for one season before injuries ended his NFL career.
