The Canton Central Catholic High School varsity football team is set to play in the program’s second consecutive title game when it plays Coldwater in a rematch of last year’s Division V state title game on Friday morning at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
The Crusaders are headed back to the state championship game thanks to a school-record 47-yard field goal by senior Dan Mills as time in expired to give the Crusaders a 17-14 win against Milan Edison in last week’s state semifinal.
The Crusaders (10-3) are led by all-state selections Griffin Baumoel (linebacker) John Colangelo (defensive back), Chris Harbison (offensive lineman), Mills (kicker) and Luke Stuffel (linebacker).
Second-year head coach Jeff Lindesmith spoke about his team and the title game with reporters from across the state via teleconference on Monday.
Coldwater enters the title game rematch with an undefeated record. The Cavaliers won 62-21 last year.
Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
