The Comets have been one of the top programs in the CAAC Blue since 2008 and have reached the state playoffs six times over the last seven years. Grand Ledge also captured three conference titles — two outright — in that span and hasn’t finished lower than third in the Blue. The Comets will be trying to end Sexton’s reign atop the Blue and capture their first league title since 2011 this fall.

Malek Adams was one of the area’s best basketball players last winter and he is also one of the top returners on the football field for the Comets. Adams was one of the top skill position players in the CAAC Blue as a junior, earning first-team all-league honors at receiver.

The Comets have a large veteran presence with 29 seniors on their roster. Grand Ledge has several seniors back that earned all-league honors last season. Joining Adams as first team all-CAAC Blue selections were defensive linemen Cooper Alspaugh and Matt Lloyd. Other Grand Ledge seniors that are returning all-league honorees are receiver Cam Collins, running backs Caden Evert and Ba Blamo, offensive lineman Bryce McMann and defensive lineman Jordan Goebel.

Grand Ledge’s defense will be experienced with eight starters returning this fall. But one of the areas the Comets were hit hardest by graduation was in the secondary with three all-CAAC Blue performers gone in Cassell Jones, Stefan Jones and Cam Edlin. Grand Ledge still has some players with starting experience returning to the back of the defense with Brendan Baker and Luke LaLumia.
