Football recruiting notes: Tucson Sahuaro LB Derik Hall to visit 3 colleges


Tucson Sahuaro senior All-Arizona linebacker Derik Hall, who has the versatility of playing several positions in college, will be taking football recruiting trips to Northern Arizona, Wyoming and UNLV this month, his father Marlon said.

Colorado, which got commitments from Phoenix Brophy Prep defensive back Isaiah Oliver and Chandler receiver Justin Jan (who both made All-Arizona), called today for Hall.

Hall, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, played running back, linebacker and safety for Sahuaro.

He ran for 1,270 yards and 20 touchdowns, caught 11 passes for 215 yards, had 30 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions for 115 yards.

He has yet to be offered by Arizona.

– Arizona Christian University got perhaps the biggest recruit since it began playing NAIA football last year with Phoenix Arizona Lutheran Academy tight end Brady Cook committing this week to the north Phoenix college. Cook, 6-5, 210, caught 49 passes for 1,252 yards and 17 touchdowns, facing mostly double teams last season.

Before the season began, Cook was getting interest from NAU. He also is a talented basketball player, who played a big part in last year’s Division IV state championship season.

– Chandler Hamilton wide receiver Brandon Krcilek, who made azcentral sports’ All-Arizona team as a punter, said he has committed to Ivy League Columbia, where he will said he will play receiver. Krcilek, who averaged 43.4 yards a punt, caught 51 passes for 848 yards and 11 TDs last season.

– Scottsdale Saguaro senior outside linebacker John Sells, 6-2, 240, who had 20 tackles for losses and 10 sacks on last season’s 14-0 Division III championship team, has received offers from Adams State, Bemidji State, Colorado-Mesa and is receiving interest from Holy Cross and San Diego.

– Saguaro senior All-Arizona center Dominic Natoli has been offered by Adams State and Colorado-Mesa, and Saguaro senior running back/strong safety Kam’ron Johnson, whose season ended in the first round of the playoffs after suffering a knee injury, has been getting interest recently from Kansas.
