MILTON – Logan Bean scored on a 60-yard punt return and a 55-yard interception for a touchdown in the first half, and Ian Kandzior made a key pick, adding a touchdown in the second half to lead Milton past Mount Mansfield, 36-12, on Friday night.
Kandzior’s one-yard dive early in the fourth quarter turned a four-point advantage into a 22-12 lead.
Trent Cross caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Milton quarterback Nick Laware and Seth Herrity added an interception returned 35 yards for a touchdown to close out the scoring for the Yellowjackets (2-0). Bradley Bombard added 96 yards on the ground on 20 attempts.
The Cougars (0-2) were led by freshman Jehric Hackney, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. Cole Preavy-Carrier added three interceptions, including one returned 30 yards for a score for Mount Mansfield.
• Mount Anthony 20, Essex 13: Mount Anthony scored all its points in the first half, then held off an Essex comeback attempt to capture its first win of the season.
Noah Normyle led the offense for Mount Anthony, completing 12-of-21 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. Normyle also ran for 45 yards on 19 touches.
Mount Anthony (1-1) scored on its first possession, driving 56 yards in six plays, capped off by Will Fischer’s 25-yard touchdown catch.
Eli DiGrande scored on a 1-yard sneak for Essex (0-2).
•Hartford 14, Colchester 6: Shutting out visiting Colchester after its first drive, Hartford scored 14 unanswered points to claim the victory.
Walker Judd led the Hurricanes (2-0) on the ground with 16 carries for 163 yards. Jacob Perkins (16 carries, 56 yards) and Kody Rhodes (eight carries, 23 yards) each scampered for a rushing touchdown.
Justin Evans got the only points for the Lakers (1-1) on a 15-yard TD run. Travis Boutin went 5-of-10 passing for 119 yards in the second half.
•Middlebury 20, BFA-St. Albans 7: Host Middlebury scored three times in the first half and shut out BFA-St. Albans after the break to improve to 2-0.
Trey Kauffman got the Tigers on the board with a 5-yard TD run in the first quarter. Oakley Gordon returned a punt 49 yards for another score in the second quarter and Cortland Fischer (112 rushing yards) tacked on a 5-yard scoring plunge for a 20-0 halftime lead.
Jared Clark’s 85-yard touchdown run in the second quarter provided the only points for the Bobwhites (0-2).
• U-32 60, Windsor 33: Colby Brochu rushed for 255 yards and four long touchdowns on just 12 carries to lead host U-32 past Windsor in a Division III matchup.
Brochu scored on touchdowns runs of 40, 25, 41 and 69 yards for the Raiders, who move to 1-0 after having a Week 1 bye.
Danny Greene ran for 119 yards and a TD while teammates Zach Schneider (35 yards) and Devin Hanson (10 yards) also had scores. U-32’s defense delivered a pair of TDs — Quintin Pelzel on a 20-yard fumble recovery and Cameron Cahill on a 25-yard interception return.
For Windsor, Trevor Worrall carried 15 times for 97 yards and Hunter Patenaude ran for 98 yards, which included a 33-yard rushing score, and caught a 39-yard TD on receiver Nick Kapuscinski’s pass.
•Bellows Falls 31, Mount Abraham 6: Off to the races with Chris McKeen’s 85-yard kick return for a touchdown on the first play, host Bellows Falls cruised pas Mount Abraham.
Terriers quarterback Zac Streeter picked up 76 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns, while McKeen added a two-yard TD run.
Ryan Paquin led the Eagles with 22 carries for 163 yards and a 23-yard touchdown with 20 seconds to play.
