Formby's walk-off keeps Mountain Vista's championship hopes alive

By

DENVER – Mountain Vista was in a familiar situation Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, but Rock Canyon plated three runs and took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. That’s when Brandon Formby provided a walk-off double over the left fielder’s head to give Vista the 5-4 victory.

In their first game of the state tournament, Brady Subart hit a home run in the top of the sixth to give Vista a 3-2 win over Rock Canyon.

Their next game, the Golden Eagles were trailing Regis 10-1 in the sixth inning and 10-4 in the bottom of the seventh before they rallied and scored six runs, sending the game to extra innings. Will Dixon provided Vista with the walk-off game winner in the eighth.

That set up their lone loss at that state tournament that came against Chatfield in extra innings as well.

After their extra inning walk-off win today and Rock Canyon’s walk-off win over Chatfield, the Golden Eagles will now play the Jaguars tomorrow morning at 1 p.m., with the winner facing Chatfield in the state championship game right after.
