There isn’t much former Ouachita star Chrissy Givens hasn’t accomplished on the basketball court.
Givens added another honor to a long list of accolades in July. On her 30 birthday no less, Givens was a part of another championship team, this time in the 2015 USA Basketball Women’s 3-on-3 National Tournament.
The Unknowns — Givens’ team — were plenty known after going 7-1 on the national stage and winning the tournament. Givens finished second in the individual ball-handling contest. Judy Jones, another Monroe-native and Wossman graduate, finished third.
Jones also competed in the tournament as part of the Teamwork squad, who finished third overall with a 5-2 record.
Fellow Ouachita great Jarrius Jackson, the third-leading scorer in Big 12 history who played for Bob Knight at Texas Tech, was in the crowd to support Givens.
As a Lady Lion, Givens became the first player in the history of Class 5A to make the All-State team four years in-a-row. She wrapped up a 2,500-point, 1,000-rebound career at Ouachita by signing with Middle Tennessee in 2003.
In four years as a Blue Raider, Givens was the back-to-back Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Middle Tennessee three-peated as Sun Belt champions with Givens on the roster from 2005-2007.
Givens was drafted by the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and also playing professionally with the Detroit Shock and overseas.
