Former Winton Woods basketball standout Shaqeia Stokes has signed with the University of Cincinnati women’s basketball program, UC coach Jamelle Elliott announced today.
“We are happy to add fifth-year graduate Shaqeia Stokes to our program,” said Elliott. “She is a Cincinnati native with a great build and is an athletic post player who can run the floor. She will make an immediate impact on the team both on the court and from a leadership perspective.”
Stokes spent four years at St. Francis. She will be immediately eligible for the 2015-16 season at UC.
Stokes averaged 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game her senior season. She opened the season with double-digit points in two of the first three games of the season. Stokes scored a career-high 17 points against East Tennessee State on Nov. 21 and grabbed a season-best 10 rebounds on Wagner on Jan. 3.
During high school, Stokes led Winton Woods to the Fort Ancient Valley Conference West Division Championship as a senior. The Warriors finished with a 23-1 record and conference, sectional and city championships during Stokes’ sophomore campaign.
