Fort Myers rolls by East Lee, 56-14

By

Fort Myers’ offense and defense scored multiple times as they defeated East Lee County 56-14 to finish undefeated in district play.

“We came out sharp. I told them that we have to take it to them early, and our guys did that.” Fort Myers head coach Sam Sirianni Jr. said.

The Green Wave were led on offense by Darrian Felix with two rushing and one receiving touchdown. Edwitch Merisier added both a rushing and passing touchdown as well.

But it was the defense that accentuated the Green Wave’s overpowering of the Jaguars.

The Jaguars offense gave up 22 points to the Green Wave. Two interceptions returned for touchdowns, a fumble returned for a touchdown, and a safety on a kickoff accounted for the points.

“As bad as it was, our kids didn’t quit.” East Lee County head coach Dave Smith said. “Fort Myers didn’t run the score up, we caused it ourselves.”

East Lee finally got on the board in the second half as Jeff Ratiu threw two long touchdown passes — one to Ja’Tavus Carey and the other to Trell Seay.

“We set two goals this season.” Sirianni said. “First, we wanted to win the district which we have accomplished. Second, was to be ‘King of the County’ by having the best record in the LCAC. Tonight was a preparation for our season finale with Dunbar.
