Brevard junior Casey Gilbert is making life difficult for hitters.

Very difficult.

Gilbert pitched her fourth consecutive shutout Friday as the Blue Devils softball team took out visiting Smoky Mountain, 4-0.

Gilbert scattered four hits and one walk. She finished with 10 strikeouts and improved to 14-2 on the season with the victory.

For the season, Gilbert has a 1.47 earned-run average and 124 strikeouts in 109.2 innings. She had previously shut out Tuscola, East Henderson and West Henderson in consecutive starts.

The Blue Devils (17-3, 9-3) scored a run apiece in the first, second, fifth and sixth inning Friday.

Brooke Nanney was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Lexi McDowell went 1-2. She and Gilbert both had RBIs.
