Tim Comstock didn’t do everything for Manual on Friday night, but the senior quarterback did enough to lead his Crimsons to a 24-21 overtime victory over host Pleasure Ridge Park.

The Crimsons (7-1, 2-1 Class 6-A, District 3), the No. 17 team in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, trailed 21-13 with 3:20 left in regulation and had the ball at their 5 after a penalty on a punt return. As Comstock huddled the team together, he gave them three words of advice.

“Never lose faith,” he said. “We always have enough time to comeback.”

Despite being nearly the entire length of the field away from the tying score, the Crimsons ran the ball eight times in just over two minutes to set up Comstock’s 7-yard touchdown run. He aided his own cause with a 46-yard run on the second play of the drive. The only time they threw the ball in that series was on the two-point conversion, when Comstock hit Eric Niemann to tie it at 21.

Chris Roussell hit three field goals for Manual, the last one from 27 yards out to give Manual a three-point lead in overtime

Pleasure Ridge Park, which scored two touchdowns in the final 20.4 seconds of the first half to take a 14-3 halftime lead, had a chance to win the game in the extra period. However, two running plays for negative yardage and a false start penalty pushed the Panthers (5-4, 1-3) to the 25. Donyell Bronaugh’s fourth down pass to the end zone was batted down by Comstock, forced to play defense because of injuries to Manual, and the Crimsons escaped.

Manual tallied 243 yards on the ground and outgained PRP 378 to 160. But the Crimsons committed two costly turnovers, including a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown by Marcel Kilgore in the third quarter, that led to 14 Panthers points.
