Doyle Trout was originally scheduled to wrestle Saturday night at the Dream Team Classic in Independence.

But the four-time Nebraska state high school champion is facing a bigger battle now.

Trout suffered serious injuries Sunday night in a one-car wreck near Waco, Neb. Doctors amputated Trout’s left leg above the knee, according to his high school wrestling team’s Facebook page and a GoFundMe account http://www.gofundme.com/r5ehms set up to help Trout’s family with medical expenses.

York County Sherriff Dale Radcliff told the Grand Island Independent that initial reports showed Trout bent down to get something in his vehicle when he lost control, swerved into a ditch and hit a power pole.

Trout, a Wyoming recruit, was scheduled to wrestle Bettendorf two-time state champion Jacob Schwarm in the 120-pound match during Saturday night’s clash between a national all-star squad and the top Iowa high school seniors.
