Murphy’s softball team stayed unbeaten in a big way Thursday.
Freshman pitcher Jacey Schwalm threw a complete game, scattering one earned run, six hits and four walks in a 5-3 win over state-ranked Rosman that went eight innings.
Schwalm had eight strikeouts for the Bulldogs (4-0, 4-0).
McKena Jones was 4-for-5 with a three-run walkoff homer. Elizabeth Wiley went 3-4 with three doubles and Avery Satterfield was 2-4 with a double, sacrifice fly.
Jones is one of only two seniors for a Murphy team that has four freshmen.
Brianna Cole was 1-3 at the plate for Rosman (5-2, 2-2) which was No. 10 in the latest N.C. Softball Coaches Association rankings for NCHSAA 1-A.
