Welcome to Week 2 of the regular season. Here’s what’s on tap for Friday night football around the city and out to the rural locales.
Rickards vs. Leon at Gene Cox Stadium, 7 p.m.
Rickards (1-0) is coming off a 20-14 win over Madison County in its opener, while Leon (1-0) slipped past Suwannee, 10-7, thanks to a 42-yard field goal by Jack Driggers as time expired.
This is the second straight September matchup between the schools. Before that, the previous nine games were played in November. The Lions won 28-6 last year, snapping a two-game losing streak to the Raiders.
Leon is celebrating its 100th year of football this season and it now sits at 595 wins. On Friday, Oct. 2, Leon football is hosting a reunion celebration at the Cascades Park amphitheater, starting at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public.
