JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Set Performance Gym and Pro Impact Sports are teaming up to find the best football players in the Jacksonville area.

The two have started a summer-long competition called Friday Night Lights, that pits area high school athletes against each other in one-on-one skill competitions, while also teaching them the proper techniques and giving the players an opportunity to work on their crafts during the offseason.

Coaches score the athletes throughout the competitions based on how they perform in certain aspects of each drill.

The goal is to hold these events every Friday, weather permitting, throughout the summer. The competition will culminate with one final event featuring the top performers from the summer to crown the area’s best players at positions like wide receiver, running back, linebacker and defensive back.

The players are also given the opportunity to learn from a pair of current NFL rookies from Orange Park in Washington Redskins linebacker Terrance Plummer, and St. Louis Rams defensive back Jacob Hagen. Having a pair of rookies contributing as coaches, gives the high school athletes the opportunity to pick the brains of the pros who just left the college game, which is where the high school players are trying to go.

The events are free and are open every week to any athlete who feels they have what it takes to compete for the title of best at their position. Friday Night Lights is held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Providence High School.
