UC Riverside 2, South Dakota 0 in Vermillion – Sammy Arellano came off the bench in both halves and scored two goals to lead UC Riverside to a 2-0 win. USD (3-8-0) is 1-1 halfway through a season-long four-game home stand. Riverside goalkeeper Elizabeth Silas made five saves, two of which came on 1-on-1 matchups with Coyote forwards. She faced eight shots in all. The Highlanders put five of 16 shots on goal. USD begins Summit League play Friday against Oral Roberts.

Kansas 3, SDSU 0 in Lawrence – Kansas scored three times in the second half to defeat SDSU in the Jacks’ final non-conference game of the season. The Jayhawks took advantage of more scoring opportunities than the Jacks, taking 27 to SDSU’s 14. Leading the Jackrabbits in shot attempts were Dani Patterson with three, and Alyssa Brazil and Jennie Scislow with two apiece. The Jacks’ record falls to 5-4-1. SDSU will open Summit League play next Sunday against Omaha.


SD Mines 1, Regis 0 in Rapid City – Sam LeTempt’s goal in the 76th minute lifted the Hardrockers 1-5-1 (1-2 RMAC) to their first ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win.



Western Illinois def. USD 32-30, 29-27, 10-25, 13-15, 15-11 in Vermillion – The Coyotes dropped their Summit League opener to WIU. Audrey Reeg posted a career-high 24 kills to lead USD. She also had 14 digs for her fifth double-double in the last six matches. Brittany Jessen tied her career high of 59 assists. Sydney Dimke posted her second consecutive double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. Teammate Kelsey Biltoft added 11 kills and seven blocks. USD (6-8) plays tonight against Omaha at 5 p.m.

Omaha def. SDSU 25-16, 9-25, 25-17, 25-23 in Brookings – Mikala Hora and Ashley Beaner both were in double digits in kills, but SDSU (1-16) came up short in its Summit League opener against Omaha. Hora had a match-high 13 kills and team-high 15 digs for her third double-double of the season. Beaner collected 10 kills. Alana Pengilly had 15 digs, Lizzie Palmer 12 digs and freshman Ellie Benson 11 digs. The Jackrabbits return to action at 8 p.m. against Oral Roberts.

Augustana def. Upper Iowa 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 in Sioux Falls – The Vikings moved to 10-2 on the year and 3-1 in conference play with a sweep of Upper Iowa. Augie was led by Dani Magdzas, who tied a career high in kills with 15. The Vikings as a team had 42 kills. Tahlyr Banks led in digs with 16, while Cech and Ivy Pearson added eight. Ashley Wilson led in aces with three, followed by Pearson with two. Augustana will face Winona State tonight at 5:30.

Sioux Falls def. Minnesota State 23-25, 29-27, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13 in Sioux Falls – USF’s tightly contested match with Minnesota State featured five sets that were decided by no more than three points, but it was the visiting Mavericks who emerged victorious. Cougars libero Abby Folk posted 16 digs and Makenna Rockeman added 10 to record her first-career double-double (16 kills, 10 digs). Janelle Lam added 14 digs for the USF defense and Lexi Scott had five blocks.


Brandon Valley def. Aberdeen 20-25, 14-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-7 in Aberdeen – With 10 kills apiece from Hannah Paauw and Hanna Jellema, Brandon Valley rallied from a 2-0 deficit to knock off Aberdeen in five sets. Becca Koehn had 39 set assists, while Elsie Zajicek added three blocks and Taylor Thorson 18 digs. Aberdeen picked up 20 kills from Brianna Kusler and six blocks from Paiton Burckhard. Sara Scepaniak had 21 digs.
