KUSA — The Fruita Monument Wildcats took down the Cherry Creek Bruins in a 5A match up on Saturday. The Wildcats were connecting early and taking advantage of wild pitches to bring runners in and put the team up early.
Fruita’s Brandi Holler hit a deep ball to left field to bring in teammate Alexi Prall for the score. Cherry Creek third base, Jannae Mehaffey, came up with a crucil stop n the same sequence getting Holler out at third at the top of the second inning.
The Wildcats continued to shine, Shane Dorscher hits a ball to center field the Bruins can’t handle, allowing a run from Nani Zambrano. Fruita up 5-1.
Cherry Creek bounced back looking to catch the Wildcats with a deep hit to left field by Frankie Warden. Warden, a great hitter for the Bruins, helped teammate Hannah Meumann score and made it to third safely.
Although Creek fought back, the Wildcats took game one, in a two game series, 18-6 in six innings.
