The success of the Asheville Middle School track program this past season can mean only good things for the future of Buncombe County’s top program.

The Asheville Middle School Boys Track Team cruised to the French Broad Middle School Conference Championship on Wednesday, May 6. AMS took first place with 122 points while runner up Enka tallied 66. Kevin Snyder took first place in the 100 meter dash (11.32), 200 meter dash (23.70), and long jump (19 feet 11 inches). Santez Booze was first in the 400 meter dash (55.21), Haven Honeycutt won the mile in 5:10, and 7th grader Aydan White took first place in both the hurdles and high jump.
The AMS girls team took second place only 9.5 points behind conference champion Cane Creek. The girls took second place in all three relays: 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 400. 7th grader Ashanti Cobb finished first in both the 200 meter dash and long jump to lead the Lady Cougars.
Coaches for the Asheville Middle School teams were Kate Fisher (distance), Danny Hallihan (throws), and Mark Wilcox & Keith Buff (sprints, jumps, relays, & hurdles).
