Adrian Szkolar was at Clarkstown South on Friday night for South vs. rival Clarkstown North, but there was plenty of good action. Iona Prep went down to the Bronx and beat Cardinal Hayes behind Ty Jerome’s triple-double. Mamaroneck and Harrison won to set up tonight’s matchup in the Tiger Tournament championship. And Nanuet upset Tappan Zee, which played without senior Luke McLaughlin, who injured his ankle Wednesday night against Spring Valley.

WEST NYACK – With it being senior day at Clarkstown South on Friday, Vikings coach Matt Backs adjusted his starting lineup to include five seniors, some of whom usually don’t play big minutes.
“Those guys, they work their butts off all the time and they don’t get the recognition that the main starters do,” Clarkstown South’s Conor McGuinness said. “To get them some recognition, they deserved it.”
After the teams traded baskets to start the game, Clarkstown South’s high-pressure defense began forcing turnovers and careless play from Clarkstown North.
The Vikings scored the quarter’s final 13 points and held a 23-4 at the end of the first quarter. Clarkstown South, with baskets from Dan O’Sullivan and Billy Kearney, extended the lead further to start the second quarter.
Clarkstown North began to find a way around Clarkstown South’s press, and scored the half’s final five baskets, including three consecutive three-pointers from Spencer Kraynick, to go into halftime down 30-17.
The Rams managed to cut the lead down to as little as nine points early in the third quarter thanks to three-pointers from Spencer Kraynick and Zack Jacobs, but scores from McGuinness, Dan O’Sullivan and Andrew Bunyan killed Clarkstown North’s momentum.
McGuinness and Kraynick led their respective teams with 16 points each. Bunyan chipped in with 12 points for Clarkstown South, while Laurent Louis had eight points for Clarkstown North.
“Whenever we play North, we want to win, we want to beat them,” McGuinness said. “We don’t like them, they don’t like us, so it’s a great win for us.”
