The Gatorade State Football Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Trey Bell
School: Mountain View (Meridian, Idaho)
Position: Running back
Weight: 165 pounds
Athletic achievement: He rushed for 1,804 yards and 26 touchdowns on 206 carries this past season, leading the Mavericks to an 11-1 record and the Class 5A championship game. Bell also caught 21 passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns. The Southern Idaho Conference Player of the Year in 2015, he is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection and an All-State honoree.
Academic excellence: Bell has maintained a 3.93 GPA.
Exemplary character: An Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, he has volunteered locally on behalf of retirement homes and youth sports programs.
“He’s dynamite in a small package,” said Todd Simis, head coach at Capital High. “Every time he touched the ball against us I was holding my breath, worried about a long score.”
THE FUTURE: Bell remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
