The Gatorade State Volleyball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Maya Taylor
School: Idaho Falls (Idaho)
Position: Outside hitter
Athletic achievement: She led the Tigers to a 36-6 record and the Class 5A state championship this past season. Taylor recorded 503 kills, 245 digs, 47 blocks and 39 service aces. The High Country Conference Player of the Year, she is also a three-time First Team All-State selection.
Academic excellence: Taylor has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community, she has volunteered locally on behalf of a food pantry and youth volleyball programs.
“Taylor is so strong and she can really hit a ball,” said Meranda Maestas, head coach at Madison High. “I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone else at a high school age hit the way she does. She’s just a great all-around player.”
THE FUTURE: Taylor will begin her senior year of high school next fall.
