The Gatorade State Volleyball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Kendall White


School: Cathedral (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Libero
Height: 5-foot-5

Athletic achievement: She led the Fighting Irish to a 36-0 record and the Class 4A state championship this past season. An Under Armour Second Team All-America selection as named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, White amassed 366 digs, 72 assists, 27 service aces and 24 kills in 36 matches. In the title-clinching sweep of Fort Wayne Carroll, White collected 15 service receptions, six digs and four assists. A two-time Class 4A First Team All-State honoree as named by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, she concluded her prep career with a school-record 1,546 digs.

Academic excellence: White has maintained a 3.69 GPA.

Exemplary character: In addition to donating her time as a youth volleyball instructor, she has volunteered locally on behalf of a food bank, Habitat for Humanity, the Hollis Adams Foundation and Joy’s House for adults living with physical and mental challenges.


“Kendall White is one of the best liberos I have ever had the pleasure of coaching and watching at the high school and club level,” said Cathedral head coach Jean Kesterson. “She is the real deal. At Cathedral, we’ve been blessed to have 15 All-American high school players, seven academic high school All-Americans, five Mental Attitude Award winners and two Gatorade Indiana Volleyball Players of the Year. Kendall’s impact on our program puts her near the top of the best of the best.”

THE FUTURE: White has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at Penn State University in the fall of 2016.
