The Gatorade State Volleyball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Jo Coffey
School: Merrimack (N.H.)
Athletic achievement: She recorded 724 assists, 208 digs, 93 kills, 58 service aces and 28 blocks this past season, leading the Tomahawks (19-2) to the Division I state semifinals. The New Hampshire Volleyball Coaches Association’s 2015 Division I Player of the Year, Coffey is a two-time First Team All-State selection. She concluded her prep volleyball career with a state-record 2,056 assists.
Academic excellence: Coffey has maintained a weighted 3.52 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of the Merrimack High student council, she has volunteered locally at an elementary school, with the Special Olympics and as a youth volleyball coach.
“Jo Coffey shattered the career assist record for New Hampshire setters,” said David Starin, head coach of Londonderry High. “She was the reason why Merrimack had such a successful season.”
THE FUTURE: Coffey will attend Southern New Hampshire University in the fall of 2016, where she will play volleyball.
