THE WINNER: Marina Mabrey


School: Manasquan (N.J.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Guard
Height: 6-foot

Athletic achievement: She had led the Warriors to a 26-2 record and a berth in the Group 2 Central championship game at the time of her selection. Mabrey was averaging 25.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.3 steals per contest through 28 games. A member of the USA Basketball Women’s U18 National Team, she was also chosen to play in both the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. The Shore Conference Player of the Year, Mabrey was named to the USA TODAY’s All-USA Preseason Girls Basketball Team.

Academic excellence: Mabrey has maintained an A average.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally coaching youth basketball players and visiting children stricken with cancer.


“Marina Mabrey is special,” said George Sourlis, head coach at Rumson-Fair Haven High. “She’s a great scorer, a great passer, she can rebound … there’s nothing she can’t do on a basketball court.”

THE FUTURE: Mabrey has signed with Notre Dame.
