Athletic achievement: He has led the Grovers to a 21-4 record and a berth in the Class B quarterfinals, scheduled for March 19. Kretchman averaged 18.5 points and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 43.5 percent from 3-point range. The 2015 Class B District 2 Player of the Year, he also posted regular-season averages of 3.4 rebounds and two steals per game.
Academic excellence: Kretchman has maintained a 3.73 GPA.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of Feed My Starving Children and as a youth basketball and golf instructor. He has also donated his time delivering sand bags and supplies to flood victims.
“Carter Kretchman was one of the most gifted and talented players I have seen,” said Rodney Kramer, head coach at Sargent Central High. “He didn’t just rely on his talent to carry him, he also put in countless hours to better himself as an all-around basketball player. In close games, everyone knew who the ball was going to but no one could stop his pull-up jump shot from anywhere on the floor.”
THE FUTURE: Kretchman remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
