North Dakota Football POY: Dalton Feeney


The Gatorade State Football Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Dalton Feeney


School: Century (Bismarck, N.D.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 211 pounds

Athletic achievement: He passed for 1,745 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season, leading the Patriots to a 10-2 record and the Class 3A state championship. Feeney completed 104-of-169 passes (62 percent) and was intercepted just four times. A First Team All-State selection, he is also a two-time All-Conference honoree.

Academic excellence: Feeney has maintained a 3.60 GPA.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of his church community, he has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and youth sports programs.


“Feeney’s a really smart player with a good feel for the game,” said Jay Gibson, head coach at West Fargo High. “He has a knack for making plays when it doesn’t seem like there’s a play to be made.”

THE FUTURE: Feeney has verbally committed to play baseball on scholarship at the University of Missouri in the fall of 2016.
