Tennessee Volleyball POY: Lauren Dorrell


The Gatorade State Volleyball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Lauren Dorrell


School: Father Ryan (Nashville, Tenn.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Outside hitter
Height: 6-foot

Athletic achievement: She led the Irish to a 40-10 record and the Division II-AA state championship this past season. Dorrell recorded 466 kills, 314 digs and 46 blocks. A 2015-16 Under Armour Second Team All-American, she was also named MVP of the Div. II-AA state tournament.

Academic excellence: Dorrell has maintained a 3.84 GPA.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community, she has volunteered locally on behalf of a soup kitchen and the Special Olympics.


“Dorrell is a very strong hitter and a great player all the way around,” said Becky Pendleton, head coach at Houston High. “She’s very consistent and makes very few errors. When the pressure was on, she really got it done.”

THE FUTURE: Dorrell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at the University of Colorado in the fall of 2016.
