THE WINNER: Bryant Crawford
School: Gonzaga College (Washington, D.C.)
Position: Point guard
Weight: 185 pounds
Athletic achievement: He led the Eagles to a 25-12 record and the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship this past season. In a 77-68, double-overtime victory against DeMatha Catholic in the WCAC title game, Crawford collected eight points, seven assists and three rebounds. A First Team All-WCAC selection, Crawford averaged 13.1 points, 5.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game in 2014-15, also helping Gonzaga to the DCSAA championship game and the semifinals of the national Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament. A participant in Nike’s Elite 100 Camp and LeBron James Skills Academy this past summer, he shot 44.2 percent from the field and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line in his final prep campaign.
Academic excellence: Crawford has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: In addition to donating his time on behalf of a youth literacy-outreach program, he has volunteered for So Others Might Eat as part of efforts to assist the homeless.
“His athletic prowess is second to none in a league that produces high-level Division I players year after year,” said Jason Moore, assistant coach of rival Bishop McNamara High in Forestville, Md. “For the last four years his game has evolved, and he has become one of the best guards in the area in all facets of the game. He gives opposing teams headaches because he is very hard to strategize against, so you only hope he has a bad game. Wake Forest is getting a gem and a proven winner that will do great things at the next level.”
THE FUTURE: Crawford has signed with Wake Forest.
