Gilbert senior offensive lineman Thayne Jackson announced during his official visit to Montana on Thursday that he will playing football there.

“The major reason I committed to Montana is that it is like a second home to me, and they are an amazing FCS program,” said Jackson, who is 6-foot-6, 270 pounds. “I have been going to Missoula ever since I was a little kid to visit family, so naturally I started rooting for the Griz. I have a full ride to go play football in one of my favorite places on Earth.

“There wasn’t much more I could ask for. I am extremely excited to get up there an compete. The coaches at Montana have told me since day one that I am their No.1 offensive line prospect.”

The plan for now is to go through a red-shirt season, but Jackson said that he is ready to play when he reports for fall camp. He is projected as an offensive  tackle.

“I can play both sides of the line, so they can put me wherever I am needed.”

Arizona’s top high school football prospects: 2016 class

Jackson said he received other offers from Missouri State and Weber State. He said he had preferred walk-on offers from Arizona State, Miami and Purdue.
