Tragedy struck the family of Gill St. Bernard’s High School girls basketball player Nyla Mulcahy on Monday, as the sophomore and her family of 10 lost their Bayonne home to a fierce fire, coach Josuf Dema said.
The fire, which also destroyed their neighbor’s home, displaced the Mulcahy’s family, which consists of her parents, six kids and two grandparents. NJ.com reported the family won’t be able to return home anytime soon, if at all, because the building had undergone “Severe, extensive damage.”
A Web site has been setup to take donations for the family as it begins to rebuild their lives, and it has raised over $30,000 as of Tuesday morning. To donate, please go to www.YouCaring.com and search for the Mulcahy Family.
Gill St. Bernard’s will also be donating all admission and concession money from Thursday’s girls/boys Somerset County Tournament quarterfinals doubleheader, Dema said, and will be accepting gift card donations for the family, which, he said, they’re most in need of at the present time.
The games are slated for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Peapack-Gladstone campus.
