Before it’s all said and done, Halei Gillis may be the highly-recruited player in the recent history of Carolina Day girls basketball.
And that recent history includes a still-active streak of five consecutive NCISAA 2-A championships.
Wildcats coach Joe Carrington said that Gillis, who is 6-foot-4 junior, presently has about a dozen scholarship offers.
Gillis has already taken unofficial visits to Elon and Western Carolina. She hopes to also get a firsthand look at the following schools – Liberty, Southern Miss, William & Mary, Hofstra, UNC Greensboro, Furman, High Point, Kansas State, Winthrop, Charleston (W. Va.), Coastal Carolina and Old Dominion.
Gillis has played basketball for Carolina Day since the eighth grade but missed last season with a knee injury. She plays AAU ball for the WNC Lady Royals.
Gillis and the Wildcats are 5-0 ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Veritas Christian Academy. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
