Welcome to another season of lohud girls basketball!
This post includes all of the need-to-know information about our coverage plans so that you won’t miss a thing off the court this season. For true girls hoops junkies, you’ll want to mark these days on your calendars:
Rankings: My weekly rankings will run in print every Sunday and will feature my overall top 10 (all classes), as well as my top 10 class-by-class rankings to give you an idea of how deep the section is. We will include Dutchess schools in both sets of rankings as best we can, but we do not cover Dutchess, so we won’t have a ton on them throughout the season.
Player of the week: I will select a lohud girls basketball player of the week every Sunday and put up a blog post at some point throughout the day. Most posts will be up sometime in the evening or night, but I’ll always try to get it up as early as possible. Anyone can nominate a player by sending me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with the player’s name, school, position, opponents, and stats for the week. This honor will include stats during the week starting on Monday and running through Sunday, if there are any games. A player can win more than once, as I will try to pick the best performer throughout the week. This post will not run in print; just on the blog.
Column: My weekly column will run in print every Monday, and will almost always be girls basketball related. Once in a while, there will be a topic that I want to discuss (such as my Dec. 7 column) that will not be hoops related, but since I am in season, I will try to keep the columns focused on girls basketball. Have something you want me to look into or sound off on? Shoot me an email! The column will not appear on the blog, but I will link it in every Monday schedule post (see below).
Daily blog posts: There will be a post up every night with the day’s results (featuring roundups of games we get stats from and a scoreboard of all scores received, with or without stats), as well as the next day’s schedule. I figure that one post makes things easier than separate posts for results at night, then a post with the schedule the following morning.
My aim is to have the post up every night sometime between 8-10:30 p.m. If I am off (yes, those days occasionally come around), I will put up the post in the morning. Monday will be the only day with its separate schedule post since there are rarely games on Sunday.
As we have always done, I will bold the predicted winners for each game this season in the slate every day. I’ll keep a tally of my season record so that we can see how I’m doing throughout the year. My usual disclaimer: The picks are not personal. This is for fun. If you want to use it as motivation, please do. I’ll take it if you prove me wrong (especially if I’m covering the game live), but please don’t think for a millisecond that I have any hatred or bias against your team.
Coverage plans post: So that you’ll know where I’ll be throughout the week (and more importantly, when I’m off), I will have a coverage plans blog post up every Monday afternoon (after the Monday schedule post). The post will be a basic rundown of the week, in hopes that both fans and coaches have an idea of where I’ll be on a given night.
Social media: Twitter is the best the way to keep up on all of the latest girls basketball information. Top accounts to follow are @Zacchio_LoHud, @LoHudGirlsHoops, and @lohudsports. My account will feature news, scores, and in-game updates; the girls hoops account will mostly feature scores, important information, links to any articles I’ve written, and any other pertinent girls basketball information from around the state and nation. I don’t want to make the account a mirror-image of my own. The lohud sports account will mostly feature final scores from all sports and links from our staff. It’s not hoops-specific, but it features some great info from my colleagues.
Follow me on Snapchat for in-game video clips, and Instagram for any photos I feel like taking while on the beat. (Forewarning: I need to up my Instagram game). My handles for both are also @Zacchio_LoHud, to make life less confusing. If you’re more of a Facebook person, feel free to “like” our lohud sports page or add me.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, tips, or news, please email me at any time. I’ll do my best to respond as quickly as possible. As always, thanks for following!
