After heading into the locker room at halftime with the score tied against visiting Parma Western on Tuesday, Harper Creek clamped down on defense in the second half and ran away with a 40-27 victory in Interstate 8 girls’ basketball action.
The Beavers limited Parma Western to three points in the third quarter and outscored the Panthers in the second half 24-11.
Harper Creek was led on the night by Jacey Bowers with 13 points. Charley Andrews had 10 points and four assists, while Heather McDaniels pulled down seven rebounds.

(At) Jackson Northwest 53, Pennfield 36: Naomi Davis finished with a season-high 13 points and three steals; Claire LeRoux had eight points, three assists and three steals. Jessica Roan had seven rebounds. Pennfield falls to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the Interstate Eight.
Gull Lake 55, (at) B.C. Central 38: Ka-Leah Ryan finished with 16 points and seven rebounds in the loss for Battle Creek Central. Also for the Bearcats (4-7, 0-5 SMAC East), Madisonn Jackson had 11 points and six rebounds. Abbey Hoard led Gull Lake with 10 points with Sierra Showerman getting nine and Kirsten Taylor chipping in eight as the Blue Devils improve to 4-6.
Marshall 56, (at) Charlotte 23: Chelsea Tobias had 11 points, three rebounds and four steals in the victory for Marshall. Also for the Redhawks (9-1, 5-0 Interstate 8), Logan Kiessling had 11 points.
(At) Calhoun Christian 37, Burr Oak 33: Abby Parks finished with 10 points to lead Calhoun Christian to the non-conference win. Also for the Cougars (5-5), Kortney Steele had seven assists and six rebounds and Emmy Williams had seven points and seven rebounds.
Homer 54 (at) Vandercook Lake 42: Bailey Manis scored 22 points and had five steals to lead Homer to victory. Brianna Mohn added 11 points with eight rebounds in the win for the Trojans (7-3).
Olivet 56, (at) Lakewood 51: Teona Feldpausch finished with 21 points in the victory for Olivet. Also for the Eagles (7-3, 5-1 GLAC), Logan Kyre had 13 points and Alissa Costello had 11 points.
(At) Delton Kellogg 47, Maple Valley 43 (OT): Delton Kellogg scored 12 points in overtime, including seven off of free throws, to pull away for the non-conference win. Lindsey VanderVeen finished with a career-high 19 points for the Panthers (2-6), while Kristen Mohn had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
