CANTON The 2014-2015 Ohio High School Athletic Association swimming and diving state championships got under way Wednesday with the Division II girls diving championships.
Summit Country Day sophomore diver Emma Hellmann started the meet’s Cincinnati contingent out right when she finished in eighth place with 385.85 points. The Silvers Knights made another splash when Stewart Spanbauer claimed the Division II boys’ state championship with 458.85 points.
The senior edged out Alter’s Trent Hagenbuch by 2.35 points.
Anderson diver Evan Leupen offered congratulations via Twitter.
Leupen will be competing for a state championship of his own beginning 9 a.m. Saturday.
Other Twitter accounts affiliated with Summit Country Day School congratulated the Silver Knights’ newest state champion.
Here is how other local boys divers finished in the competition: Indian Hill freshman Noah Vigran (6th, 404.20 points), Mariemont’s Charles Schooler (11th, 358.60 points), Talawanda’s Ethan Coffin (15th, 343.10 points) Summit’s Mitch Reinhard (17th, 241.30 points), Wyoming’s Charlie Donnelly (19th, 236.85).
From the girls’ diving competition earlier in the day: Indian Hill senior Kara Korengel finished in 10th with 380 points. Wyoming’s Emma Weber finished in 16th with 357.70 points.
Kettering Alter’s Claire Schuermann won the state title with 483.35. points.
