The Lakeview girls’ basketball team hit their free throws down the stretch as the Spartans held on to beat Portage Central 53-48 at home on Tuesday night.
“We had to close it out with some clutch free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter,” said Lakeview coach Don Bussler. “We actually shot free throws well all night, going 14-for-18 from the line.”
Savannah Olsen paced Lakeview with 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the win.
“Savannah Olsen really carried us for the first three quarters tonight,” said Bussler. “She made a lot of jump shots and she rebounded really well.”
Ava Cook also had a nice game for Lakeview with 13 points (8-of-8 from the free-throw line), five steals and three assists. Kirby Homer added 10 points as the Spartans improve to 9-7 on the year.
(At) Coldwater 41, Pennfield 40: Stacy Guzy led Coldwater in the win with 14 points. Pennfield had chances to take the lead in the game’s final seconds, but couldn’t get the ball to fall in the basket. England Bennett scored 11 points with five rebounds and Jessica Roan scored seven points for Pennfield (8-9). Also for the Panthers, Brooke Lenz had six points and six rebounds and Claire LeRoux scored six points with five rebounds.
Harper Creek 37 (at) Lumen Christi 21: Olivia Leson had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds to lead Harper Creek in the win. The Beavers trailed 17-14 at the half but a strong defensive performance, led by Hannah Berning’s five second-half steals, kept Lumen Christi to just four second-half points. Harper Creek’s Charley Andrews and Reagan Dishaw each scored 11 points in the win.
(At) Mendon 51, Colon 10: Keagan Bower scored four points with five rebounds, Hannah Root had 11 rebounds and Anessa Broker grabbed seven rebounds in the loss for Colon.
Marshall 58, (at) Parma Western 23: Nikki Tucker scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Marshall to the win. Jill Konkle scored 10 points with five rebounds and Logan Kiessling scored seven points with six rebounds. (16-1).
Lansing Christian 42, (at) Maple Valley 30: Payton Schrader led Maple Valley with 14 points. The Lions’ Erica Burkett added six points and Olivia Ricketts scored five points in the loss.
(At) Delton Kellogg 48, Schoolcraft 46: Libby Parker got a rebound and putback with 1.4 left in regulation for her only points of the contest, lifting Delton Kellogg to the thrilling victory. The Panthers (6-11, 5-7 KVA) were led on the night by Kristen Mohn who finished with an impressive double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds to go with five steals. Also for Delton Kellogg, Lindsey VanderVeen had 14 points.
(At) Olivet 37, Perry 35: Teona Feldpausch hit two free throws with 10 seconds to go to seal the win for Olivet. Feldpausch finished with 10 points, three assists and three steals for the Eagles (14-4, 9-1 GLAC), while Alissa Costello had 12 points and Noelle Rohde added six points and five rebounds.
