The Wall girls soccer team lost both regular season games to Red Bank Catholic in 2014.
But the No. 6 Crimson Knights now have the upper hand in this year’s season series against the No. 10 Caseys after Tuesday’s Class B North showdown.
Katie Hyde scored the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute as Wall edged Red Bank Catholic, 1-0.
“Cara Capra got control of the ball and settled it down and then sent the ball to Katie Hyde,” Wall girls soccer coach Michael Juska said. “Katie put an excellent first touch on the ball and beat one defender before going to the far post for the goal.”
According to Juska, it was Hyde’s second goal of the season and it couldn’t have come at a better moment for the Crimson Knights (4-2, 3-1). Wall goalie Alex Panasuk made eight saves and Jackie Robinson had 15 saves for the Caseys (2-3-2, 1-2-1). Wall outshot Red Bank Catholic, 16-8, in the game.
The rematch between the schools will be Oct. 12 at Wall.
Jackson Memorial 4, St. Rose 0: Lindsay Bathman and Emily Jacoby each had first half goals at the Jaguars jumped out a 2-0 halftime lead on the Purple Roses. Sam Wanzor and Haley Meyers each added a second half goal. Jackson Memorial’s Rachel Colt (two saves), Karyssa Niedt (two saves) and Kylee Sullivan (one save) each played goalie and St. Rose’s Shannon Tormey made six saves.
IN FIELD HOCKEY
St. John Vianney 3, Monmouth 2: Lauren McGrory completed the Lancers (6-1, 4-1) comeback with her game-winning goal at 50:45 in the Class A Central game. Monmouth (1-6-1, 0-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Natalie Johnson (14:36) and Ezgi Pehlivan (21:24) but St. John Vianney scored three unanswered goals for the win. First, Heili Carpino started it off with her goal at 33:42, then Kathryn Harrigan scored at 35:19 to tie the game before McGrory won it later. Monmouth’s Asia Shaw made 20 saves and St. John Vianney used Emelynn Sneary (eight saves) and Bailey Foreman as their goalies.
Central 3, Jackson Liberty 0: Jaime Corrigan had two goals, Madison Demand had one goal and one assist and Brielle Calleo made one saves for the shutout. Jackson Liberty’s Meghan Hemhauser made seven saves.
Manasquan 1, Raritan 0: Emma Pettit scored the game-winning goal at 58:16 from a pass from Lindey Gladden as the Warriors (2-3) defeated the Rockets (2-4-1) in a Class A Central game. Manasquan’s Olivia Munn made four saves and Raritan’s Jackie Victor made three saves.
IN GIRLS TENNIS (SHORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT)
RB Catholic 4, Wall 1: Alexis Fuda (6-4, 6-0) and Kayleigh Shannon (6-1, 6-1) secured first and third singles victories, respectively, while the top pairing of Erin Mattone and Alexandra Krynycyi (6-2, 6-4) and second team of Sarah Dente and Jenna Ryan (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) swept doubles play as the Caseys (7-0) topped the Crimson Knights (2-4) in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament. Toni Kauffman notched the lone point for Wall with a 7-5, 6-4 second singles win.
Shore 4, Jackson Mem. 1: Halah Davis (6-0, 6-2), Charlotte Roarty (6-1, 6-0) and Annie Ruoff (6-3, 6-0) each secured singles victories, leading the Blue Devils (4-1) past the Jaguars (4-3) in this Shore Conference Tournament first round matchup.

Manasquan 2, Raritan 1: Brian Tapia cleaned up a deflection off the goalie for the game-winning goal at 57:30 as the Warriors edge the Rockets in a Class A Central game. Raritan’s Chris Medina received a through ball from Lou Dilaurenzio at the top of the box and had a one-time first at 32:31 for a 1-0 lead. Then Manasquan started its comeback first with a goale from Dan Del Guercio via a pass from Tolga Guven at 42:36. Then Tapia had the clinching goal.

Central Regional hires Clemente: The Central Regional Board of Education recently approved Mike Clemente as the new varsity boys basketball coach. Clemente played at Central Regional under his father Mike Clemente Sr. and graduated in 2003. He scored 1,098 points in his career at Central Regional. Clemente replaced Steve Zengel, who stepped down at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
