Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament quarterfinals
East Brunswick 2, Metuchen 1 (OT): Melissa Ciaccio scored the golden goal in the 87th minute Tuesday and the third-seeded East Brunswick High School girls soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over No. 11 Metuchen in the quarterfinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament.
Metuchen’s Mya Stolarski scored the game’s opening goal after receiving a pass from Katharine Chura in the 25th minute, before Sabria Glasgow tied it for the Bears with eight seconds left in the opening period off a pass on a quick combination from Katrina Nguyen-DeMary and Andrea Apostolescu.
The game winner was set up off of a corner kick, as Metuchen initially cleared their area, but Bears’ midfielder Melissa Ciaccio gathered the clearance and dribbled through the Bulldogs back line, finishing her left-footed attempt to the far post.
East Brunswick will face second-seeded Bishop Ahr in Thursday’s semifinals.
Bishop Ahr 2, Wardlaw-Hartridge 1: Jillian Vassallo scored two goals and second-seeded Bishop Ahr advanced to the semifinals. Fiorella Doglio found the back of the net for 10th-seeded Wardlaw-Hartridge in the final minute of regulation.
Monroe 2, Piscataway 0: Abigayle Cicoria and Kaitlyn Mascali scored a goal apiece and Erin Seppi made eight saves and top-seeded Monroe advanced. The Falcons will take on No. 4 South Brunswick on Thursday. Isabella Caracta made nine saves for ninth-seeded Piscataway.
Ridge 1, Hunterdon Central 0: Shannon Keefe finished a Chrissy Weyrauch shot in the 49th minute and the defense did the rest as the Ridge High School girls soccer team wrapped up the outright title of the Skyland Conference Delaware Division with a 1-0 victory over Hunterdon Central. Sam Carney made three saves for undefeated Ridge (16-0), while Bristol Pizzuto stopped six shots for Central (13-4-1).
Scotch Plains-Fanwood 2, Morris Catholic 1: Annie Pierce scored two goals, both off Sophie Brause assists, and Scotch Plains-Fanwood improved to 17-1-1.
Somerville 3, Bernards 0: Christina Cernuto scored two goals and Marisa Adelman notched a goal and an assist as Somerville clinched the outright title of the Skyland Conference Valley Division. Sarah Coulson made five saves for the shutout as the Pioneers moved to 13-1-1.
Hillsborough 3, Pingry 2 (OT): Amelia Curtis and Carly Swetz each posted a goal and an assist, while Maddie Vailhe added a tally as Hillsborough won in overtime. Natalia Ramirez scored two goals for Pingry.
Mount St. Mary 4, Immaculata 2: Alaina Parisella posted a hat trick and Hanna Guarnuccio added a goal to fuel Mount St. Mary (10-8). Naiya Jefferson and Katie Mulkerin scored for Immaculata (1-11-1).
North Plainfield 6, Bound Brook 1: Ashley Atubi and Caitlin Gugliotta each posted hat tricks to fuel North Plainfield (11-4-3). Alex Thiessen had the lone goal for the Crusaders (4-14).
Gill St. Bernard’s 3, Manville 0: Jane O’Conner tallied a goal and an assist, while Hayley Goldin and Samantha Delehanty scored goals to lead Gill St. Bernard’s.
Watchung Hills 7, Phillipsburg 0: Ally Grunstein netted a hat trick and Kaylee Donnelly made five saves to lead Watchung Hills (10-5-3). Mel Cunha, Alyssa Inacio and Sami Spurr also scored in the victory.
Warren Tech 2, Somerset Tech 1 (OT): Brianna Roper scored a goal and Kaycie Sconda made 17 saves for Somerset Tech (6-15).
Belvidere 5, South Hunterdon 1: Charlotte Smith scored for South Hunterdon.
